Acquisitions/Alliances
Graham-Field Health Products, Bay Shore, N.Y., in another move toward streamlining its holdings and focusing on its core home care and medical-surgical product lines, sold its San Antonio-based Prism Technologies division to a Prism management team.
The $21.5 million sale "represents a key turning point in Graham-Field's restructuring plan as it works toward emerging from its Chapter 11 [bankruptcy protection] proceedings," officials said. Even after debts in conjunction with the sale are retired, the proceeds will result in a cash infusion into the company, officials said.
Medline Industries, Mundelein, Ill., finalized an exclusive agreement with Mississauga, Ontario-based Medical Mart to distribute Medline products in Canada. The multiyear deal is Medline's first "major endeavor" to sell its products in Canada and is estimated to be worth more than $30 million.
Optiway, Toronto, completed a management buyout of Intercare Group's mobility division. The division is headquartered in the Netherlands and conducts operations in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and South Korea.
Sunrise Medical, Carlsbad, Calif., in a move to bolster shareholder value, has sold its New Milton, England-based Parker Bath subsidiary to Getinge Industrier of Sweden. Getinge subsidiary Arjo will sell Parker Bath products, and Parker's New Milton facility will become an Arjo distribution center.
In other news, Sunrise signed a license agreement with Denver-based Kolorfusion International. The agreement grants Sunrise exclusive use of Kolorfusion's patented technology used in the decoration of wheelchairs and other mobility products.
The Global Health Care Exchange, Chicago, an Internet health care trading exchange, has agreed to acquire Westminster, Colo.-based CentriMed. CentriMed offers electronic procurement solutions for health care providers. Details of the agreement were not disclosed. The exchange was formed this spring by Johnson & Johnson, GE Medical Systems, Baxter International, Abbott Laboratories and Medtronic.
