Fresenius Medical Care, Bad Homburg, Germany, reported net earnings for the year ended Dec. 31 of $170.5 million, or $2.15 a share, compared with net earnings of $131.6 million, or $1.62 a share, a year ago. For the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, the company posted net earnings of $45.6 million, or 58 cents a share, a 32 percent increase over net earnings of $34.5 million, or 43 cents a share, for the same quarter last year.

Alaris Medical, San Diego, posted a net loss for the fiscal year ended Dec. 31 of $28.4 million, or 48 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $24.4 million, or 42 cents a share, a year ago.

For the fourth quarter, the company recorded a net loss of $17.9 million, or 30 cents a share, compared with net earnings of $300,000, or 1 cent a share, for the same quarter the previous year.
