TCAP Study Provides Insights Into Caregiver Buying Habits
Charlestown, R.I.
More than 25 million people in America currently provide home care for their family members, and that number is expected to increase dramatically, according to a study by The Caregivers Advisory Panel.
The study, Caregiving in the U.S. 2000 - Needs, Issues and Insights, surveyed 1,200 family caregivers and is the first such survey that gives insights into their buying habits and needs, according to TCAP.
"The response rate to the survey was approximately 70 percent, and I think that clearly confirms our belief that caregivers have been longing for a way to communicate their needs to the providers of products and services that they rely on," said Paul Alper, founder and president of TCAP.
According to the study, 96 percent of caregivers influence decisions regarding the purchase of caregiving health products, and 79 percent purchase all or nearly all of those products. The study also showed that caregiver organizations, specialty therapists and physicians were the three most trusted sources for caregivers seeking caregiving information.
At press time, the study was scheduled for publication Feb. 9. A second study focusing on durable medical equipment is scheduled to be published May 15. For information, call 877/595-6227 or visit www.caregiversadvisorypanel.com.
