2005
September CMS issues draft DMEPOS quality standards.
2006
May 1 CMS publishes proposed rule for new Medicare DMEPOS competitive bidding program and accreditation for DMEPOS suppliers.
August 14 CMS issues new quality standards for DMEPOS suppliers.
August 18 CMS publishes final regulation for accreditation of DMEPOS suppliers.
September 29 CMS awards Competitive Bidding Implementation Contractor (CBIC) contract to Palmetto GBA.
November 22 CMS announces independent accreditation organizations for DMEPOS suppliers.
2007
April 2 CMS announces Medicare DMEPOS competitive bidding program final rule and first-round competitive bid areas and product categories.
April 9 CMS opens initial registration for first-round bidders to get user IDs and passwords.
April 10 CMS publishes final rules for the new Medicare DMEPOS competitive bidding program.
2008
January 8 CMS announces next 70 MSAs that will be included in phase two of the bid.
March 20 CMS announces new payment rates resulting from first round of competitive bidding.
July 9 House and Senate vote to overturn President Bush's veto of H.R. 6331, the Medicare package that includes a delay of competitive bidding.
2009
January 16 CMS issues interim final rule on competitive bidding, which includes a rebid of Round One in 2009.
February 13 CMS announces 60-day delay of the effective date of the competitive bidding interim final rule.
April 18 Interim final rule for competitive bidding, which requires a rebid of Round One in 2009, went into effect.
August 3 CMS announces timeline/schedule of education events, begins bidder education campaign.
August 17* Registration for user IDs and passwords begins.
September 30 Last day for DMEPOS suppliers to get accredited.
October 2 DMEPOS supplier surety bond deadline.
October 21* CMS opens 60-day bid window for Round 1 Rebid.
November 21* Covered Document Review Date for bidders to submit financial documents.
December 21* 60-day bid window closes.
2010
June 2010 CMS announces single payment amounts, begins contracting process.
September CMS announces contract suppliers, begins contract supplier education campaign.
Early Fall CMS begins supplier, referral agent, and beneficiary education campaign.
2011
January 1 New program begins.
