ST. PETERSBURG, Florida—Veterans Medical Supply Inc., a medical supply store, was recognized by Julie Su, United States acting secretary of labor, as one of the recipients of the 2024 Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing Veterans (HIRE Vets) Medallion Award. The award was presented by the U.S. Department of Labor during a virtual award ceremony. Veterans Medical Supply earned the gold award after applying earlier this year.
The HIRE American Military Veterans Act Medallion program is a federal award program that aims to recognize employers who successfully recruit, hire and retain veterans.
“Winning a HIRE Vets Medallion Award is a proud moment for Veterans Medical Supply,” said Michael Schwandt, president and CEO of Veterans Medical Supply. “It reflects our commitment to not only serve those who have served, but also to actively include them in our workforce. Veterans bring invaluable skills, discipline and resilience to our team, and we are honored to provide them with meaningful career opportunities. This award is a testament to our ongoing mission to support veterans beyond their service years.”
Veterans Medical Supply joins 838 other companies from 49 states, plus the District of Columbia, who intend to show a commitment to hiring veterans. These companies seek to ensure they have a long-term career and growth plan that uses skills acquired through their military service.
Recipients of the 2024 HIRE Vets Medallion Award meet employment and veteran integration assistance criteria, including veteran hiring and retention percentages; availability of veteran-specific resources; leadership programming for veterans; dedicated human resource efforts; pay compensation; and tuition assistance programs for veterans. More than 1,600 employers have earned a HIRE Vets Medallion Award since 2019.
