BOSTON (July 10, 2018)—Working to provide a new type of wound care treatment in the home, MyWoundDoctor, LLC, was recognized during the 2018 Northeastern University Nurse Innovation Entrepreneurship Competition and won AARP's audience choice award at the event. The audience choice award from AARP allows MyWoundDoctor to advance to a national competition at AARP later this year at The Hatchery, an AARP innovation lab that works with startups and investors to discover big ideas and bring them to scale to change how people live as they age.
The MyWoundDoctor solution was developed to help people heal from chronic wounds through telehealth wound care management services, according to Loretta Sullivan, RN, CWON, of MyWoundDoctor clinical services, who presented at the competition and received the awards with the company's chief operating officer, David Owen.
AARP Innovation Labs works to identify and highlight entrepreneurs who create bold services, products and solutions that have the potential to address the evolving needs of people 50-plus, said Director Nigel Smith via press release. "We know that family caregivers and those they care for are looking for timely medical advice and empowering tools to better address patient needs and improve care.”
MyWoundDoctor supports physicians, hospitals, health plans and patients with integrated and cost reducing telehealth wound care clinical services. Offering mobile imaging of wounds and expert wound care advice, MyWoundDoctor provides patients with personalized wound care through certified wound care nurses with physician oversight.
Based in Nashville, Tenn., MyWoundDoctor is licensed to provide consultations in more than 40 states and provides a case rate fee for telehealth consultation and daily wound care supplies, based on the expected duration of wound treatment, according to the company.
