The American Association for Homecare's annual Legislative Fly-In this month will include an oxygen technology fair to show lawmakers firsthand how patients actually use home oxygen equipment and to demonstrate some of the technologies currently available.
The event, scheduled June 19-20 in Washington, also will include meetings for providers and other HME stakeholders with their federal legislators.
According to the association, the fly-in is an opportunity to educate legislators about the dangers of the oxygen capped-rental provision in the Deficit Reduction Act and to combat a number of other legislative challenges, such as competitive bidding, facing the industry. Association Chair Tom Ryan urged all stakeholders to participate to make sure those who shape health care policy know that home care is a key part of the answer.
“Right now, more than ever, we need as many boots on the street as possible,” he said.
