A rehab technician who found $6,800 hidden in rented medical equipment said he notified his supervisor — and doesn't regret not keeping the small fortune for himself.
Corey Gibson was examining equipment at Fox Medical Equipment Service on Dec. 27 when he felt something in the bottom of a portable oxygen tank's carrying case. When he shook it, out fell $6,800 — all in $100 bills.
About returning the money, Gibson said, “I know you have to do the right thing.”
According to Fox CEO Francis Barton, a man who died the previous week had stored the money in his rental equipment. The patient lived with his 86-year-old mother, and neither of them could travel to the bank regularly. “[His relatives] didn't have any idea,” said Barton. “They tore the house apart looking for money.”
“[Turning in the money was] really a great thing to do,” he said, adding that Gibson, 22, is single and lives with his mother. “You hear so many negative things in this industry. It's nice that something comes up that's great like this.”
