Do you understand what is required for reimbursement of power mobility claims with dates of service on or after May 5, 2005?
With a number of power mobility policies changing this year — including a new national coverage determination in May; new power wheelchair codes that were issued, then changed and have now been rescinded; and an interim final rule requiring a face-to-face exam and physician documentation in place of a CMN — an overwhelming majority of providers participating in HomeCare's Web poll said they simply don't understand how to deal with PMD claims. A whopping 62 percent of respondents said they either don't understand or are “totally confused” about handling these claims now, and another 11 percent said they aren't sure. Only 12 percent of providers said they definitely understand the process, and 15 percent said they think they understand.
