Invacare Chairman and CEO Mal Mixon received the Corporate Leadership Award from the Paralyzed Veterans of America

WASHINGTON — Invacare Chairman and CEO Mal Mixon received the Corporate Leadership Award from the Paralyzed Veterans of America at its Americana Gala, held Sept. 16 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

The annual fundraising event honors leaders who work to help the nation's paralyzed veterans and their families and highlights the role the organization's programs have in improving the quality of life for veterans with disabilities.

Other honorees at the event were former Deputy U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Gordon Mansfield; the American Institute of Architecture Students; the U.S. Paralympics; and U.S. Representative Chet Edwards.

Founded 63 years ago by a band of spinal cord-injured service members who returned home from World War II, the organization is dedicated to veterans service, medical research and civil rights for people with disabilities. Today Paralyzed Veterans works toward an environment that is barrier-free; one where wheelchair sports are mainstream; to ensure veterans' benefits and health care are fully funded, and that the scientific community is amply funded to strive for new treatments and cures.
