SYRACUSE, N.Y. (July 29, 2015)—Franciscan Companies is pleased to announce its support for Operation Walk Syracuse continued this year with a donation of nearly $3,000 of medical equipment.

“Franciscan’s values include compassion, reverence and integrity,” said Tim Scanlon, RRT, Executive Vice President of Franciscan Companies. “It’s very important to us to live these values and practice kindness and concern in our community. Our sponsorship of Operation Walk Syracuse gives us another opportunity to help people who are less fortunate.”

Operation Walk Syracuse is a non-profit organization that allows severely arthritic patients in countries with underdeveloped health care systems to receive total-joint replacements at no cost. Co-directors Dr. Brett Greenky and Dr. Seth Greenky lead a team of nearly 50 medical professionals on the week-long missions. The latest mission takes the team to Guatemala on August 21, 2015–August 30, 2015 where they will perform surgeries on 80 patients.

“I truly appreciate Franciscan Companies’ support,” said Dr. Seth Greenky. “Like Winston Churchill said, ‘We make a living by what we get. But we make a life by what we give.’ That is truly the spirit of Franciscan’s giving. Their donation makes it possible for us to help so many people in Guatemala.”

“Operation Walk Syracuse is most appreciative for the support of our generous sponsors,” said Kimberley Murray, RN, MS, CNOR, Clinical Team Director of Operation Walk. “It is with heartfelt gratitude that for the fourth consecutive year we accepted a substantial donation of patient care supplies from Franciscan Companies. Without their ongoing support and commitment to Operation Walk Syracuse, our surgical mission trips would not be possible. Countless lives will be touched in Guatemala because of Franciscan Companies’ partnership with Operation Walk Syracuse.”
