LIBERTY LAKE, Washington—Family Resource Home Care, an independent homecare agency in the Pacific Northwest, has named Hector Barragan as chief executive officer effective January 2024. Barragan formerly served as the company’s chief operations officer. Jeff Wiberg, the company's founder and former chief executive officer, is transitioning his focus toward mergers and acquisitions for the company. He will continue to hold a position on the company’s board and remain actively involved with the continued growth plans for the organization, along with government affairs and industry advocacy.
“As an organization, we set out to find the right person who would enable me to step back from the full-time chief executive position and we found that in Hector,” said Wiberg. “In his time at Family Resource, he has proven himself not only to be an effective leader but also the right cultural fit to carry on the legacy that I’ve strived to create at Family Resource.”
Barragan joined Family Resource in 2022, after serving as chief operations officer for a national urgent care company. Under his guidance, the company experienced record growth in 2023. Barragan and Wiberg worked closely throughout 2023 in preparation for the transition, which was announced to staff in late 2023.
Acknowledging the company's culture and legacy, Barragan said, “When you have respect for something, you don't try to change it. You build upon it, and that's my goal. I'm here to build upon a legacy from a founder who did a remarkable job for this organization, while also continuing to drive our growth and expansion over the next several years.”
Wiberg will provide ongoing guidance, oversight, and mentorship as a member of the company’s board of directors. In addition, he will help advance Family Resource Home Care's acquisition strategy and maintain his involvement in regional and national organizations, including the Home Care Association of America of which he is the immediate past president.
“We have very aggressive expansion plans and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to dedicate my time towards acquisitions, specifically,” said Wiberg. “This transition also enables me the opportunity to retire from full-time work while my children are still at home, which has been a goal of mine since taking the helm at Family Resource.”
The transition underscores the company's growth initiatives which have taken the company from eight locations in 2019 to 30 locations today. With continued consolidation expected in the homecare industry, Family Resource said it has positioned itself to be a ready buyer while also moving forward with ongoing geographic expansion.
“I am honored to lead Family Resource and our incredible team of dedicated employees who truly embody our company’s purpose statement of improving more lives,” said Barragan. “I fundamentally believe that you can successfully marry a growth-minded business environment, with an existing family-like exceptional culture. My plan is to do just that for Family Resource and I’m looking forward to this next phase.”
