NORTHFIELD, Illinois—Medline celebrated its now fully operational 710,000-square-foot distribution center in Salt Lake City, Utah. To commemorate the milestone, local dignitaries, Cairo Wasfy, chief resource officer of Ardent Health Services, representatives from Medline and other major hospitals and health care providers in the region participated in an event, including a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony and facility tours.
The new distribution center is an expansion for Medline, who previously operated a smaller facility in Salt Lake City. This new distribution center is three times the size of its previous facility.
“Medline has history in Salt Lake City and a larger facility will help us take care of more healthcare facilities across the continuum of care," said Steve Miller, executive vice president of supply chain, Medline. "Today we are excited to celebrate our fully operational facility and our employees who work hard every day to ensure the success of our customers."
The Salt Lake City facility is part of Medline’s ongoing Healthcare Resilience Initiative, in which Medline has invested $2 billion since 2018 in domestic manufacturing, distribution and IT to strengthen the country’s health care supply chain. As part of the initiative, Medline added eight constructed distribution centers, totaling 9.7 million square feet, and expanded manufacturing capabilities during the pandemic to help meet ongoing PPE time-to-market demands.
“I’m excited to welcome back Medline to Salt Lake City,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall. “Today marks an important milestone in our mission to build an unparalleled health care innovation ecosystem and I couldn’t be happier to support this expansion. We have tremendous momentum in Salt Lake City right now and I’m confident Medline will succeed and grow here along with us.”
In February 2022, Mayor Mendenhall unveiled her plan “A Blueprint for Growing Salt Lake City’s Health Care Economy,” a partnership with public and private entities to strengthen the healthcare innovation industry in Salt Lake City and Utah.
“Medline’s commitment to Salt Lake City will help make health care run better in the state of Utah," said Lance Soffe, director of targeted industries at the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity. "Expanding the healthcare and life science sectors are a priority and Medline’s new facility supports health care supply chain while creating good jobs for the community.”
