ALEXANDRIA, Va. (February 10, 2017)—Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be America’s 23rd Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In response, B. Douglas Hoey, RPh, MBA, National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) CEO, issued the following statement:
“We congratulate Rep. Tom Price on becoming Secretary of HHS. Before coming to Congress, he was an orthopedic surgeon. Since his election to the House of Representatives in 2004, Price climbed the congressional leadership ranks and used his medical background to be a leading expert on health policy for the Republican conference. He is uniquely qualified to lead HHS, which will oversee the potential repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act and possible reforms to the Medicaid program, among other high-profile priorities for America’s complex health system.
“While everyone shares the goal of finding ways to produce better health outcomes while reducing costs, NCPA and the more than 22,000 independent community pharmacies it represents will continue to push for common-sense, market-based, bipartisan reforms in our area of expertise—the delivery of critical prescription drug services to Americans. We are eager to work with Secretary Price and look forward to sharing our thoughts with him going forward.”
