Under CMS criteria, in order to be eligible to participate in competitive bidding, an HME provider must:

Be in good standing with the Medicare program and not under any current sanctions by Medicare or any governmental agency or accreditation or licensing organization

Have an active National Supplier Clearinghouse (NSC) number

Meet any local or state licensure requirements for the item being bid

Be accredited by a CMS-approved accreditation organization or have pending accreditation in order to submit a bid. The deadline for first-round bidders to gain accreditation in order to be eligible to win a contract is Aug. 31, 2007
If a provider has multiple locations in a competitive bidding area, then it must submit a single bid for all of its locations.
