Under CMS criteria, in order to be eligible to participate in competitive bidding, an HME provider must:

  • Be in good standing with the Medicare program and not under any current sanctions by Medicare or any governmental agency or accreditation or licensing organization

  • Have an active National Supplier Clearinghouse (NSC) number

  • Meet any local or state licensure requirements for the item being bid

  • Be accredited by a CMS-approved accreditation organization or have pending accreditation in order to submit a bid. The deadline for first-round bidders to gain accreditation in order to be eligible to win a contract is Aug. 31, 2007

If a provider has multiple locations in a competitive bidding area, then it must submit a single bid for all of its locations.
