Orthopedic device manufacturer Encore Medical has acquired Empi — a St. Paul, Minn., manufacturer of pain management, orthopedic rehabilitation and physical therapy devices — for $362.7 million.
The acquisition creates a company offering “a comprehensive continuum of products” for the orthopedic market, said Encore CEO Kenneth Davidson, expanding the company's offerings to include products for orthopedic surgeons, therapists and their patients.
“This acquisition is consistent with our stated strategy of becoming a mid-sized orthopedic product company with leading positions in both the reconstructive orthopedic surgery and orthopedic rehabilitation market segments.”
Davidson said he projects the company's revenues to increase from $120 million in 2004 to $300 million for the combined company in 2005.
