WASHINGTON (Dec. 11, 2013)—Ask your senators to support amendments to fix the disastrous Medicare bidding program. Key members of Congress advised AAH recently that the best chance they have of reducing the tremendous burden of the Medicare bidding program on providers and their patients is to develop fixes based on the industry solution—the market pricing program. AAHomecare and its industry partners have worked extremely hard over the last month to get this done. AAH has evaluated both short- and long-term fixes in hopes that they could be included in the sustainable growth rate (SGR) reform bill, also known as the "doc fix." Senators Ben Cardin (Md.), Bob Casey (Pa.), Rob Portman (Ohio), Pat Roberts (Kan.) and Debbie Stabenow (Mich.) of the Senate Finance Committee have either offered or are supporting amendments to the SGR bill that the Committee is scheduled to mark-up Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2013, at 10 a.m. EST. Now is the time to make your thoughts on the disastrous Medicare bidding program known to your Senators. This is the first time in many years that the Senate has taken action to help us, so now we all need to help ourselves by drumming up as much additional support as possible. If your Senators are members of the Finance Committee, ask them to support the amendments. If they are not on the Committee, ask them to contact the Committee's leadership and state their strong support for getting the bidding program fixed today! If one of your Senators is already on an amendment, you do not need to call them. Instead, focus your efforts on the other Senator from your state. Ask him or her to step up and represent you. Call the Capitol Hill switchboard at (202) 224-3121. You can also look up the direct line to your Senators’ offices in Washington. E-mail your Senators through the AAHomecare Action Center at action.aahomecare.org. Let AAHomecare know you're helping—e-mail AAHomecare President Tom Ryan at tomr@aahomecare.org.
