DENVER, Colorado – The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) elected AHCA’s Board of Governors and NCAL’s Board of Directors for the 2023/2024 term. Phil Scalo of New Jersey was elected as AHCA Chair, and Mark Maxfield of Idaho was elected as NCAL chair.

Phil Scalo is the founder and chairman of Bartley Healthcare, a senior care company located in Jackson, New Jersey. Scalo has led Bartley from its inception in 1984 to become a highly awarded senior care company in New Jersey. Scalo has also served as a consultant for long-term care and assisted living operations, financing and project development. He previously served as vice chair on AHCA’s Board of Governors.

NCAL also elected its Board of Directors, including Mark Maxfield as its new chair. Maxfield is the owner and CEO of The Cottages, offering assisted living and memory care throughout Idaho. He has been involved in the assisted living profession since 2001, and his prior experience was in managing similar operations for a different segment of the population. He has served on the Board of the Idaho Health Care Association, the Community Care Advisory Council and previously served as the vice chair for the NCAL Board.

Members of the AHCA Board of Governors are elected by the association’s governing body, the Council of States. The NCAL Board of Directors is elected by current members of the NCAL Board and by the NCAL State Leaders. Both boards held the elections at Delivering Solutions 23, the AHCA/NCAL Convention & Expo.
