(June 23, 2014)—SCA, a global hygiene and forest products company and the maker of TENA incontinence and skin care products, announced that American journalist Corinna Halloran will join the all-female Team SCA as the official onboard reporter in the 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race (VOR). This role, though challenging and demanding, is highly sought after with 2,000 applicants worldwide this year. The selection process is rigorous, and Halloran has trained with the team since day one in order to be prepared for the same extreme situations as the racers. Onboard reporters have the role of storyteller, sharing the incredible narrative of boat racing life through daily blog posts, videos and photos. A Newport, R.I. native, Halloran has already cut her teeth reporting for Team SCA during their first transatlantic journey from Lanzarote, Spain to Newport last month. Formerly a chief stewardess and deckhand for multiple sailing races and excursions, Halloran has the experience and passion that makes her the best fit for the team and to live life at the extreme—as the VOR motto says. Past onboard reporters shared with the world back onshore stories of extraordinary crew adventures, ranging from what it’s like to work at the mercy of the elements to how the team feels about missing milestones at home. It’s truly an amazing and emotional ride. Click here to learn more about Team SCA.
