WATERLOO, Iowa (March 20, 2015)—A revised version of U.S. Rehab’s Tech Training will provide attendees with “a deeper dive” into what it takes to repair power mobility equipment and get paid for it. “U.S. Rehab has teamed up with Richard Fuller Consulting so we now offer two programs: the online tech training for newer employees and our advanced in-person Tech Training seminar,” says Greg Packer, president of U.S. Rehab, a division of VGM Group Inc. The advanced course is for those with at least two years of repair experience and service managers. Included in the new offering will be a comprehensive review of PWC technology, electricity and electronics. “Problem areas will be frankly discussed. This is not a sales pitch posing as a tech seminar,” adds Packer. Fuller will present information about pulse width modulation, deep-cycle batteries, DC motors and servo drive concepts to enhance troubleshooting accuracy. Non-current power wheelchair models will not be ignored. New to the advanced training will be Elizabeth Cole, MSPT, ATP, U.S. Rehab’s clinical director, who will discuss potential seating and postural issues and when patients should be referred to an ATP, rather than just have the chair repaired. Permobil, Invacare, Motion Concepts and Sunrise Medical will all teach troubleshooting and repair techniques on their equipment. Improving billable hours will be emphasized, as will completing a repair order so the tech’s company can be paid for the work. VGM/U.S. Rehab members who have employees successfully complete the course receive additional discounts on top of the contracted discounts they normally receive. Individuals who successful complete Tech Training will receive 2.1 continuing education units. Upcoming sessions will be offered: May 4-6 in California; June 16-18 at the Heartland Conference; Aug. 3-5 in Dallas; and Oct. 12-14 in Atlanta. Fee is $450 for VGM/U.S. Rehab members and $500 for nonmembers. For more information, contact Kayla Mahler, U.S. Rehab marketing and communications coordinator, 800-987-7342 or kayla.mahler@vgm.com.
